About Us
Crescent Manor Care Centers is a privately-owned, independent, 90-bed nursing facility nestled in the rolling hills of southwestern Vermont. With over four decades of experience serving residents with a variety of needs and requirements, Crescent Manor has become the nursing home of choice for those seeking superior, personalized care. "I so appreciate how you kindly and efficiently kept me posted on Dad's
various ups and downs. History Crescent Manor Care Centers was founded in 1964 by David and Marie Alexander, a husband and wife team devoted to elder care. The Alexanders developed a unique "family first" approach to nursing that was embraced by the community. Their dedication to personalized service was made all the more rare after Medicare and Medicaid programs were enacted in the 1960s and institutionalized nursing homes became standard. In 1979, Crescent Manor joined forces with Sweet Brook Nursing Home, located in neighboring Williamstown, Massachusetts. Founded by Dorothy Hickey in 1948, Sweet Brook had an equally strong reputation for compassionate care and excellence in nursing services. The combination of two facilities so committed to quality brought the levels of skilled nursing in the area to new heights. Over the past 25 years, the Crescent Manor facility has been repeatedly modernized and adapted to complement the specialized programs of care offered. To better serve an even greater number of those in need, we have increased our bed capacity to 90, including a 40-bed secured Dementia care unit. Our latest expansion added six rooms for palliative care, as well as a family respite room. We also have expanded the size of several patient rooms to better accommodate short-term rehabilitative needs. Owners Crescent Manor is owned by Elaine Neely, NHA and Jack Merselis, MD, a team that has been working together to develop and deliver the highest quality of nursing care since 1968. In addition to overseeing the award-winning Sweet Brook Nursing Home in Massachusetts for 35 years, Elaine and Jack co-founded Sweetwood Continuing Care Facility, one of the leading continuing care retirement communities in the country. Elaine and Jack's commitment and contribution to Crescent Manor and the people it serves is apparent in their day-to-day accessibility to residents, family members and staff. There are no executive committees at Crescent Manor. There are no corner offices or expense accounts. Simply put, that's not how we do business. Instead, the facility is managed by a tightly-knit team of men and women who are there, every day, to evaluate and address needs as they arise. This homegrown approach is a rare commodity in the often complex, anonymous world of elder care. It also is of great benefit to the residents and their families, who have told us time and again that they are gratified to see their concerns treated with respect and addressed with immediacy. Not surprisingly, the dependability and commitment that Jack and Elaine bring to their work inspires the same dependability and commitment in their employees. Staff As a locally-owned facility with strong ties to the community, we are able to hire the very best and most qualified employees. Our staff is one of our strongest assets. Made up of hard-working, dedicated individuals, the Crescent Manor family combines pride in a job well done with a sincere desire to please. We take a lot of satisfaction from our work and a lot of pride in our achievements and it shows. This approach encourages loyalty, and many staff members have been here for ten or more years. Each of us consider the facility a second home and the residents a second family. We invite you to come spend time with us, and see what a difference true caring can make. Location Crescent Manor is located on a secluded and peaceful hilltop overlooking the spectacular Green Mountain range of southern Vermont. Although the sounds of birds chirping and wind rustling the leaves serve as gentle reminders of the comforts of country life, we are just blocks from Main Street and the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center hospital. Our large lawns and garden areas offer a bounty of natural delights each season. From groups of purple irises to rose beds to flowering pear trees, our beautiful surroundings are treasured by residents, visitors and staff. Bennington hosts a variety of exciting cultural and educational activities year-round, and is home to Bennington College, one of the top schools in the country. The area attracts tourists from around the world who delight in our museums, outdoor activities, theater, antique shops, quaint cafes and restaurants and relaxed quality of life. Our foliage season has to be seen to be believed! |
